using x on pc: mixed windows and X-windows
This software comes from the net, where it is known as
xwindemo.zip (xarchie will find for you the source).
The described usage is somewhat different from the one
suggested in the distributed material. It works much more
satisfactorily than other versions, e.g. the
VISIONWARE
How to use it
The description applies to the installation on pc-janp.
- start win on the PC (MS-windows). It will ask for password
- either log in yourself, or choose cancel (avbryt)
- win starts with xwin opened and with a telnet window
- use the telnet window: menu connect, choose any of the machines and log in
- if you have access to ~ladi/bin simply type pcjanp.
this command brings an xterm into the MS-win enviroment. You can paste and copy etc...
Also, you can start any program, as xv, ghostview, xdvi etc. Sometimes, there
will be warnings, but most of it works very well.
- if you cannot call pcjanp , make it yourself or type
xterm -sb -display pc-janp:0 -name Whatever_you_want
pc-janp can be used only when not needed by J.P.H. and only!! if
no changes are done to the setup. The one who touches any parameters
of the autoexec.bat or similar will be limited to
line terminals for the rest of his/her studies !!!!
