The NOAA Polar Orbiting Environmental Satellite (POES) orbits the Earth in a high-inclination (polar), sun-synchronous orbit at about 800 km altitude.
The particle observations on the NOAA satellites give essential information about sources (substorm and convection injection) and loss processes (charge exhange and wave/particle interaction) of energetic charged particles in the magnetosphere and their interaction with the atmosphere.
